National Park system, Guadalupe
Mountains National Park offers
solitude and tranquility. The entire
mountain range is the world's finest  
example of an ancient, marine fossilized
reef.  It contains Guadalupe Peak, the
highest point in the state of Texas at
8,749 feet in elevation and El Capitan,
which rises above the desert floor like the
prow of a great ship.  The park also

"the most beautiful spot in Texas," is a desert oasis with it's trout filled stream and thousands of
bigtooth maple trees.  Exploring Guadalupe Mountains National Park reveals extremes in
habitats ranging from gypsum sand dunes to coniferous forests dominated by Douglas fir,
southwestern white pine, and ponderosa pine.  Many large animals are found in the park,
including Mule Deer, Black Bear, Mountain Lions, and even Elk!
