Rating: 3 Moderate (click to see rating defined)
4 Days - $575 per person
Trip Itinerary:
Day 1: Meet your guides and other group members at 4:00PM, inside Big Bend National Park. We will have
an orientation, safety briefing, gear distribution and pack fitting. Dinner is included, but the Chisos Mountains
Lodge Restaurant is available for those wishing to eat there.
Day 2: After breakfast, we begin our trip on the Pinnacles Trail. The trail climbs 1600ft over 3 miles. It
overlooks great views of the window and down across the Basin as it makes the climb. The trail continues into
the wooded Boot Canyon, named after a large rock formation in the shape of an upside down boot. We'll make
our way to our heavily wooded and beautiful campsite for the night. If we are lucky, we may even catch a
glimpse of one the Black Bears that makes their home in the Chisos Mountains.
Distance: 4.5 miles Elevation Start: 5400ft Elevation End: 6800ft
Day 3: We begin the day by dropping our packs at a side trail and climbing Emory Peak, the highest point in
the park at 7832ft. The summit offers views across the mountains, down into the Basin, and across the park.
From the peak, we retrace our route back down to our packs. We'll continue on the trail as it makes it way
through Boot Canyon towards the South Rim. The rim provides views to the southern portion of the park, far
into Mexico, and across the desert 2500ft below. After taking in the amazing South Rim vistas, we'll move on to
our camp just off the rim.
Distance: 7.5 miles Elevation Start: 6800ft Elevation End: 7400ft
Day 4: The final day of our adventure starts along the South Rim. As we make our way back towards the
Basin, we'll enjoy the view down into Blue Creek Canyon. We'll pass around the back side of Emory Peak and
across Laguna Meadows, an area popular during the park's ranching past. An overlook along the trail offers a
view into the Basin and to the Window. From here the trail switchbacks down and the forest gives way to
cactus as we come to the end of our trip.
Distance: 7 miles Elevation Start: 7400ft Elevation End: 5400ft
