backpacking route in Big Bend.  On this 35 mile adventure,
you will experience some of the most stunning scenery that
the park has to offer.  You will travel through the mountain
forest, conquer Emory Peak (the highest point in the park),
take in the vistas from the South Rim, cross the desert,
discover a desert oasis, and experience the park in a way
that few visitors ever do.  The Outer Mountain Loop
combines the Pinnacles, Emory Peak, South Rim, Juniper
Canyon, Dodson, Blue Creek, and Laguna Meadows trails to
form an extremely challenging and rewarding trip.

South Rim
The South Rim loop is an excellent introduction to
backpacking and Big Bend National Park.  On this 19 mile
adventure, you will experience a forested sky island in the
middle of the desert.  The Chisos Mountains are the only
mountain range entirely contained in one park.  In the spring,
these mountains are the only location in the United States to
spot the Colima Warbler.  You'll climb the highest peak in
the park and travel through a beautiful forest.  At the South
Rim, the cliffs plunge 2500 feet to the rugged desert below.
The rim reveals a panoramic view far across the park and
deep into Mexico.

Day Hiking & The Marufo Vega
On this adventure you'll experience everything Big Bend has
to offer.  You'll climb a mountain, hike the desert, and relax
by the Rio Grande.  The Marufo Vega Trail is an excellent
chance to experience the solitude of the desert as it takes
you deep into the limestone Dead Horse Mountains.  On this
14 mile overnight backpacking adventure you will see
evidence of Big Bends mining past.  Watch the Rio Grande
roll by almost 1000 feet below you from the rim of Boquillas
Canyon.  You'll be observed from a distance by wary wild
burros, while the Sierra del Carmen mountains serve as a
backdrop for this trip.
